How to Select an Optical Isolator

Choose an optical isolator by wavelength, power, polarization, fiber and package.

Use this page when the application is known but the component specification still needs to be narrowed before RFQ.

Selection logic

Wavelength first

Match the isolator center wavelength and operating range to the laser or amplifier. Start with the nearest listed standard wavelength rather than a generic isolator.

Then check optical power

Low-power in-line isolators and TGG high-power isolators are different product families. Do not choose a housing only by wavelength.

PM or SM

Use PM versions when polarization extinction ratio matters. Use SM versions where polarization maintenance is not required.

Package and connectors

High-power packages are larger. Connectors can reduce power handling on some products, so connectorized requests should be reviewed before quotation.
