Fiber Laser Mode Field Adapter Selection — selection guide

Fiber Laser Mode Field Adapter Selection

Mode-field adapter configurations depend on the input/output fibers, signal wavelength, loss requirement and package.

Use this guide when the application or some target parameters are known but the final component specification still needs to be narrowed before RFQ.

Selection logic

Input & output fiber interfaces

The MFA data lists standard SMA-to-LMA fiber combinations such as 6/125→10/125 and 10/125→20/400.

Signal wavelength

Standard signal ranges are 1030–1080 nm or 1450–1600 nm.

Forward & backward loss

The insertion-loss values depend on the selected fiber pair.

Package & mounting configuration

Available configurations use the D1–D7 package family or a custom package.

Frequently asked questions

Which interfaces define a mode field adapter request?

Identify the input and output fiber types and dimensions. The selected fiber pair determines the configuration to review.

How is the signal wavelength selected?

Use the operating wavelength and range listed for the selected product configuration. A family label does not establish performance at every wavelength.

How should insertion loss be compared?

Compare the stated forward and backward loss for the selected fiber pair and test conditions. These values should not be transferred to a different interface.

When are package requirements confirmed?

The package, pigtails and mounting constraints are confirmed with engineering for the selected optical configuration.
